Gothenburg Marine Biological Laboratory

Gothenburg Marine Biological Laboratory is located at Nya Varvet in Gothenburg on the Swedish west coast. The lab is located right where the harbor meets the North Sea. From Klippan, and the tram station Kungsten and Nya Varvsallén it’s only a 15-20 minute walk and it’s quick to bike here from central Gothenburg. You can rent bench space in the lab to carry out your own research. We offer scientific consulting assistance for experimental design and construction. We carry out environmental monitoring for authorities. The lab is equipped with closed, recirculating aquarium systems, DNA lab with QIAquity Digital PCR System from QIAGEN and other standard laboratory equipment. We offer educational programs for schools in marine biology. We also offer recreational diver training within the PADI system from the basic Open Water Diver course to Divemaster which is the first professional level in recreational diving.

FIND US

Take the tram lines no. 9 towards ”Kungsten” or no. 11 towards Saltholmen. Get off at ”Kungsten” or ”Nya Varvsallen” and then its approximately 15-20 minutes walk. By  Buss no. 91 you go to  ”Rengatan” and then walk for about 10-15 minutes. With the ferry ”Älvsnabben” you travel to  the ferry stop ”Klippan”  and walk for about 15 minutes. RECREATIONAL DIVING.
Gothenburg Marine Biological Laboratory teaches recreational diving according to the PADI-system, from Open Water Diver to Divemaster. We also do scientific diving according to European Scientific Diving (ESD) and Advanced European Scientific Diving (AESD).

SCIENTIFIC DIVING.
Implementation of research diving according to the S30 certificate as well as the European Scientific Diver (ESD) and Advanced European Scientific Diver (AESD) certificates. Acting as Dive leader in research diving.  Collection, implementation of field experiments and underwater photo and video documentation.

EDUCATION.
Gothenburg Marine Biological Laboratory organizes  many different education activities for school children, teachers, students and the general public. The education is mostly offered in Swedish.
